Land Sickness\'ish

Picking up on the recent thread on 'land sickness', does anyone else get mildly disorientated the day after being on the boat?

I'm fine when I arrive home, after long or short trips, but the next day I feel disorientated and tired, finding it difficult to concentrate. I'm not wobbly, nore do I feel sick, it even took me a while to twig to the connection between it and time spent sailing.

Perhaps it isn't the boat at all, just being a man of a certain age /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Do you take any anti-seasickness medication? If so it could be the after-effects of that.

My family used to complain that I was spaced-out and strange after sailing when I took Kwells (hyoscine), but once I changed to Stugeron the problem went away.

Its called vestibular habituation, and is a known cause of car accidents, so be careful

There's another factor I have just noticed. Boating in any form is addictive, and in the days after sailing one feels especially withdrawn and low. All the worries of the office come piling back on - wouldn't life be so perfect if one could only escape again onto the water?
It passes after a while, as one starts planning ahead again to the next trip.the

im very lucky being self employed and less than 5 mins to the sea front. the problem i'll have over winter is ive only a 15ft fishing boat and i cant go out in moderate to big waves. so wont have many days out in the windy thames estuary.

Ah, good thought. We use Stugeron occasionally. Now I'll see if there is a connection between taking that and the dis-orientation 24hrs later.
