Anybody used them ?? What are they like ??

I am going to treat myself to a xmas pressie of a pair of Dubarry Shamrock boots, and they seem to be the cheapest via a Google search, but I must confess that I've never heard of them. Based in Cardiff I believe.

Talking of Dubarry boots, does anyone know if their sizes are large or small? I'm normally about size 8, but when I buy trainers, I usually have to get a 9.

Brought three items from them, GPS/Sounder, GPS Chartplotter and cartridge. Excellent service and price. Even got a free key ring /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I take a 10 and my Dubs at 11 are too big,I bought them to accommodate thick socks which as the boots are so good you don't need!
I'd go for a half size bigger than shoe size.

Or as has been intimated on another post go into a chandlers stocking Dubs try them on and threaten them with the internet price.It might work.
Whatever price you pay(within reason)they are worth it.
 
based in Penarth near Cardiff .I have bought loads of stuff from them over the years but live local so call into the store.
Allways had good service from them.
 
This sort of comment really irritates me, see earlier posting re chandlers prices. To take advantage of the low tele pricing you have to accept not having the benefit of visiting someone to try on from the stock they maintain, which is at THEIR cost.
I found Dubarry fit varied even between Shamrock & Ultima boot , and needed the half size & the advice on sock sickness. It would have been a waste to buy mail order at £155 I was happy to pay £170 for service. And I am Yorkshireman brought up in Scotland
 
I bought most of my chandlery over the counter from Seateach while I was building my boat. They stated that they would match Mailspeed prices. After Mailspeed folded they would still match their competitors. It's always worth asking.
 
Agree, good point and fair on the chandler at the outset of a discussion, but would the original poster have bought if the chandlery didnt match? or just left with the knowledge of the size to order on line.
 
Well, visiting your local chandler might be OK for you on the south coast, but there are none close to my home in Aberdeenshire, hence I have to buy ALL of my needs either on-line or over the phone, which ammounts to much the same thing.

The nearest chandlers to me are Gael Force in Inverness, a round trip of at least 160 miles, or the Bosun's Locker near Edinburgh which is again a round trip of at least 160 miles.

I can't even do as suggested and pop in and try on a pair to get my size, hence the question in the first place.

If I just happen to be near one of the chandlers mentioned above, then I will go in, and yes. I have BOUGHT stuff from both places in the past.

It would be nice if you had all the facts of my situation before sounding off.
 
It was colmce who's suggetion irritated , not your reasonable & realistic question. Living as you do remotely, then mail order is the answer, perhaps you might find a sympathetic chandler who can advise on size, perhaps send sized footprints to them. Of course they may not be the cheapest, but you will be rewarded by a well fitting pair of the best boots around.It really would be a shame to compromise oon fit as, when correct, they are unbelievable comfortable. FWIW you probably wont need thick socks even up north, if you buy good baselayer socks from chandler or outdoor shop.
Incidentally I also dont live on the South Coast of UK.

Sorry hocus. I think I (we?) may have got our wires crossed. I assumed (wrongly) that it was me you were having a go at.

If there was a chandler locally, then I would go and see what their price was, and yes, I don't mind paying a bit extra for local service.

In the past have negotiated a price based on what I could get on the net, and have found some chandlers to be ok with this approach, and I'd certainly use them again if I was in that area.

If I get good service from a chandlers I will buy from them and have been in situations where on being informed of mail order prices or now internet prices they have either matched or gone someway to meeting the difference.They are a business and can make that sort of decision.
Bye the bye I always avoid chandlers if I can,cos I always come out with a widget or chart which catches my eye,which costs shed loads of extra money!
 
Have used Land and Water Leisure on a number of occasions and found them to be very helpful. If you live close pop in,If you can't their mail order is also very good.
I have no links with the company, just like to recommend good service when it's justified
