2.4 lt turbo engines onto out drives not that that makes any odds.

what is the info out there on them. Good, bad , indifferent.

People who have them and use them are particularly encouraged to comment, by PM if you do not want to be public.

thanks in advance

Clive

I don't have Pumas, I have a 1.8XLD, also Lancing Marine, and am very happy with it... I've needed a few bits along the way, and the Lancing specific bits (Water pump crankshaft pulley mount for example) are dead reasonable. I've called them a couple of times in the last 12 years for tech advice, and both times spoken to Mike Bellamy the boss.. Top man, very happy giving the advice

Don't know about the Pumas, I had 2x the previous FSDTI 140hp engines (Modified Transit) from Lancing. Mated to SP outdrives. All I can say is lovely! mine were great. Mike B a fount of knowledge and very helpful.
Just make sure the installation is well done, I have heard rumours that some installations skimped on cooling pipe sizes with predictable results.

After your replies I sent Lancing an e Mail last night.

Today I had my reply from Mike Turns out they were in use 2000 - 2009 only stopped because the engine plant in Turkey changed over to ECU manufacture.

Other search on the net eventually revealed that Puma was the development name and that us lesser mortals probably know them under the Duratorq ZSD label.

The 2.4 lt was apparently used extensively in Land Rover Defender and London Taxi cab.

I think that indicates a degree of robustness and service life don't you.

Thanks for your responses. Any one with actual use experience I would still like to hear. Again PM if you do not want to go public.

Regards Clive

Also found in Transit vans and the 2 and 2.2L versions were used in the Mondeo mk3 and X-Type Jags. Still in use today in commercials in 2 and 2.2l guise. I think the 2.4 was dropped from the commercials and Defender, due to emissions issues - same performance but cleaner from the smaller engines with vnt turbo so hence production switched to ecus.
