Find THIS hard to beleive, as our marina and the lake in general is showing signs of beeing suspiciously quiet. Also know of lots of boaters moving to West coast Scotland N.Wales and of course the Med. Still I am sure that the powers that be would not fabricate such figures /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

The only sea I intend cruising is the Med /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Whadya mean go round in circles sometimes we go in a straight line !
and other times we may even go anticlockwise around the lake just for the shear hell of it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Lake Widermere article (re speed limit) Knock on Effects?

Only time will tell I suppose. Meanwhile, Loch Lomond is coming under more scrutiny now as a part of the National Park etc. Zoning of jet bikes is being examined although banning of same probably never possible due to an ancient right of navigation to everyone, having been granted... dating back to Days of Yore and the Bruce et al. Some form of speed restriction is coming generally and could be down to about 35mph as opposed to 65?mph currently. Policing with radar guns and so on is now commonplace but they have their work cut out because there are normally around 12000 boats of all classes registered for some form of use during a season and this seems to be gradually increasing. About 200 large mobo applications from Windermere were turned down during 2004 by one LL marina due to a lack of space. We meet more and more English visitors on the Loch which is a good thing for all concerned and long may that continue. Anyway, next week my boat comes out for a few weeks for the usual things and then we get out again. Can't wait as the springtime on Lomondside is spectacular.

Doesn't really explain the net situation though does it. Nor does it explain what type of powered craft.

Net replacement could be gentlemens launches and clinka built displacement boats with a 10HP yammy. Whilst the planing cruiser fraternity moves away and does not renew.

The litmus test here would be to walk into Shepherds or Windermere Aquatics and ask to see their order book for boats that will easily do more than 10 mph.

I wonder... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: Lake Widermere article (re speed limit) Knock on Effects?

You lucky man Roy. I travelled along the Loch-side road on my way up to Nevis a couple of years ago, as I was on my way to start the 3 peaks challenge. The scenery was just stunning. A speedboat followed us for miles (or we followed it) and I could not believe just how big LL really is.

I am not at all surprised that us sassanachs are migrating north. When it comes to hospitality, the Scots know a thing or two about welcoming visitors. Its something we seem to have lost...sadly.

I'm not sure if that is an accurate test Dave.Another Sealine dealer is based at Burton Waters near Lincoln and thats at the end of a ditch, but they obviously sell enough to keep both them and Sealine happy.

I spoke to a Shepherds salesman at LBS and he told me that the Marina Village had a long waiting list.

BTW your boat looks great on your profile photo - very sleek

About the only thing I know about the speed limits, is what little I have read in the press, but I would like to ask, who has imposed the speed limits ? are they an elected body or appointed ? if appointed who appointed them ?

Have any of the anti-speed limit campaigners managed to get themselves onto the body who imposed the limits ?
