Hello hello from somewhere near Malaga with no wind and lots of swell :)

Have booked 3 days in Gib marina to pick up some stuff, but looking at our plans we may arrive at Gib late in the evening. Is it still possible to anchor near La Linea?

Conflicting reports online so would be good to hear from someone on the ground so to speak.

Thanks

Yes, I quite often do it if we arrive overnight. Just outside la linea harbour

I believe at certain times of the year the move people out so the spanish fisherman can dredge the area for something to eat

Am in La Line now. There has been a few boats parked outside the marina for the last week or so, so no moving on at the moment!

seems the whole of that coast from say Torremolinos to Gib - the marina management bods feel that anchoring near a marina is like camping on a hotel forecourt - is that about right? Are there any anchorages, really?

We've never had a problem off Lalinea beach but boats were moved in August a couple of years ago when they were dredging for shell fish, may be an annual event? Don't know the coast east of Gib (except Fuengirola where some friends anchored outside the marina whilst we went in) but SW Spain there are quite a few anchoring options.

Did a pit stop at anchor thre last week. Should be ok if you moor near the other yachts on the north Sid of the harbour near the breakwater for the yacht club. The local fishing boats that go for concha fina were operating but to the west of the anchored yachts and daylight only.

Not sure when the season finishes. It's a very valuable catch for the fishermen and sustains a lot of families. Unfortunately, like any shellfish dragging, it destroys the seabed for anything else. Hence the controversial reef in BGTW.

There are quite a few short term anchorages along the Costa Del Sol but very dependent on the wind being from the west, which it is for about half of the year. La Linea is good for all weather though, possibly the only one. The south side was closed to anchoring some years ago after a contract was signed to construct a superyacht dock. Quick as a flash, nothing has happened with legal wrangling and financial problems. I've ignored the signs a few times with brisk westerlies but again only for pit stops, and been prepared to move at short notice if the Guardia get Whiney.

Anyway, if you are booked into Marina bay it's open 24 hours, it's just the other dank place that won't pay for overnight security.

Avagoodone.
