How do you get into it, is there a route, or just aim for it from any where. Yep I could look it up, but whats the point of a forum, if I have to look every thing up.

What time do I need to get there and what time leave, how long can I stay.??

I know you said you were doing IRA training yesterday, when I rang up and said I wos up the straits, cos the lights were on green.

Sorry for mucking up the passage planning stuff with your pupil. But I just set off and had no idea where I was going.

Cant understand all this lap top planning stuff, folk seem to do. I just set off in the genneral direction, then work it out when I get there. Course in the mean time, I've probably decided to go some where else anyway.

Anyway, next time down, need to get into whatsit thingy place.

'Port Penrhyn'

Into the Straits from Conwy.

Pass Beaumaris (where You were the other day) Bangor pier will be sighted.
Hang a left just before the Gazelle hotel is abeam yer right hand side.
Said pier will then be about a cable off of yer right hand side.
A yellow sticky up thing should be just off of yer left hand front windscreen.
Keep to the right of that a bit with the Gazelle out yer back window.
The 'gap' for the harbour entrance will show up.
There will be a big pile of sand on the right hand entrance to the dock.
Like -- on top of the dock, not a danger to Nav!

Hour and a half either side of HW will be safe.

Use Holyhead as yer standard Port
Then work out Secondary port times for a safe entrance using tidal curve graphs
etc etc.
And 'The Rule of Twelfs'
Plus Yer Tidal Stream Atlas.
Dctr Robert Kemp's 'A Cruising Guide to the Menai Straits'

As yer do -- Snarf Snarf!!!!

Oh- but don't ferget One Most Important thing.

There are plenty of moorings available half a cable off of the Gazelle.
So take the ding
Bells on offer at two fer the price of One.

Ding Ding!!

Come on Kwacker, this is H your talking too!

H, keep an eye behind you, if it looks sandy your either to early, or to late depending on which way your going. :)

If you're stopping in there, don't forget everything dries out, dock, outer wall, bay & Dickies. It is MOSTLY soft mud, but there are some hard lumps of rock & metal around that your props may not appreciate.

But the visitor's mooring off the Gazelle will keep you afloat & the slipway is fine for landing by dinghy - you do have a dinghy don't you? If not it will have to be St George's Pier - provided the Pince Madoc isn't there.

Oi, yer talking to an expert here. Yep, I know it dries out, but we wont be there long. Yep we can stop at the Gazelle, except it was closed today. The dinjy is sat on it's davits.

Dont matter if Prince Mad dog is in residence or not, we just raft up together and Henry pees all over it's deck.

Told you I was an expert.

While you're in Penrhyn, check out the fish shop there if it's still open. Used to be good quality & good value, but it is a few years since I was in there. If you do go alongside the Mad Dog, give Henry plenty to drink.:D

Oooo alongside the MD 'well the old one that is' bin there got that Tee shirt.
Ok if the Students are on board we used to get fish offem for supper.
also bin there before MD on the Tudno etc.:D:D

Henry drinks in the Liverpool Arms, he's not that daft.

Also went to Almwich, just to sus the place out again. Even found a big fuel pump, but could not figure out how it worked.
However we have applied for Kwackers to be HM there. So that should sort it out.

That Mad Dog is a wonderful boat. I took myself on a guided tour around it. Nearly went for a spin, it was all switched on and ready to go.

You could borrow it legally.

Yep agree with that, was woken up last summer to see two lovely's climbing over Little Ship and up 6' to get on the Prince....... apparently they had arrived on a rib..........good job they didn't look behind to see an old bloke almost naked and bog eyed wondering what all the noise was about. :)

Tom

PS My fenders still have blue on them from one of my visits, apparently they had only just painted it. You would think that they would use something other than Dulux...
