Can anyone recommend a Solent based electrical engineer that might be able to get my tracvision going. The boat was originally based in Europe from new, so was setup to Astra 1 & Hotbird. From what I can work out It needs updating as the uk signal comes from the Astra 2 satellites. they were moved or renamed or something a few years back and therefore my controller can’t find them.
Thx

I had a similar problem with a G4 a couple of years ago. It turned out to be a bit more complex and required a new wrap in the dome. The particular model was out of date but the guy who fixed it was a gem. He sourced secondhand wrap from C A Clase and reprogrammed the receiver for a very reasonable price. His name was Paul but he came through a third party - Roger Upham Marine Electronics at Chichester Marina (01243 514511). I am sure they would put you in touch with Paul.

Thanks, will give them a try

Do you have a Satellite receiver box fitted.
IIRC, KVH requires a Sat box to output the appropriate frequency to switch between the High and Low bands.
KVH is more complex than other systems.
I believe it needs the High and Low bands working in order to track the satellites.

Give C A Clase a call, that’s who I always used when I had KVH issues, they always looked after me ok and being based near Portsmouth are not too far away.

If you mean the KVH box (small box with screen on front and 3 buttons below) then yes.
It was originally set up with viewing cards in the tv’s as they were fancy (at the time) Loewe sets with built in sat tuners. Still got the cards (canal+) and it sort of worked but obviously all euro channels.
High and low bands is all well over my head, I’ve got the guy IDAMAY mentioned above coming over next week to hopefully sort so fingers x.

No
I meant an actual Sky satellite box - ir a satellite receiver that outputs the switching signal for Astra 2.
Essentially, on Astra 2 there are two bands (high freq and low freq) - a standard Astra 2 satellite receiver outputs a signal (200khz IIRC) to switch the LNB from High to Low bands.
I think that the KVH system needs to see the High and Low bands.
Thus a Sky box (or similar) is required to get the KVH to work (unlike other domes that work without the need for a sat box)
It has been a long time since I played with a KVH installation so I might be wrong.

I think you may well be correct Hurricane. That was certainly true with my M4. However, as stated above, I also had a problem with the dome itself. Having said that re-programming the M4 receiver was not a simple operation. I had managed it previously with Raymarine receivers but Tracvision was more complicated. Well worth a small amount of a professional's time IMHO.
