Spoke to the Peachments staff at LIBS on Thursday re running temperatures. Nanni remove the Kubota thermostat leaving the housing empty, and provide another housing where they put their own French sourced, and impossible to get 'stat (apart from a 72 degree one from them). They advised I put a 85 degree Kubota stat back in this housing; any idea where I get one from?

(To explain the problem; Nanni provide a 72 degree 'stat, and if the engine runs cold & doesn't reach this, a cold running kit, all of which I have. The engine runs fine at sea, reaching 85-90 degrees under load, but currently running on the upper Thames struggles to get above the 72 degrees it reaches with the cold running kit)

your explanation is a little confusing. With a 72 deg 'stat fitted the engine temperature should not go above 72 deg - the 'stat is there to regulate the temperature to a steady 72 deg. If the temperature goes above 72 deg then the 'stat is fully open and temperature control is lost; it may also indicate that you have insufficient cooling water. I do acknowledge that 72 is a bit on the low side, 82 or 88 is more common in cars.

Sorry for the confusing bit. Nanni put in a 72 degree thermostat to get up to this temperature. However, reading the Kubota manual for the block the temperature at which the thermostat fully opens is 85 degrees. My boat is used on the upper Thames where it never gets to anything like 85 degrees, and on the east coast where it does.

Thanks for the links.
