The Management of Kos Marina have recently barred all external contractors from working on boats in the marina having launched their own boat maintenance company, Kos Marine Yacht Services. This means those of us wintering our boats in Kos but who have returned to the UK can no longer use the local contractors we know and trust to prepare our boats for the new season. Does anyone here have knowledge of the reliability/skills of Kos Marine Yacht Services?

No, this is a newly formed company so I don't think anybody has any experience of them yet. I understand that the company is owned by one of the chandlery guys in the marina. The chandlery is OK but not very well stocked. This is not surprising as most cruisers in this area buy their stuff in Bodrum (Turkey) which is only 8 nm's away. Better prices and better selection. The Kos Marina is trying very hard to compete with the Turkish marinas. They are doing their best, but I think they have a steep hill to climb to be competitive.

I have left Kos this Wednesday after staying on the shipyard of 'Kos Marine Yacht Service' for 8 days - and I am absolutely disappointed about the work they (would) have done on our boat (if I hadn't argued with them about 3 hrs per day), disappointed about the workink conditions for the employees (and also the working conditions for the customers who want to work on their boat on their own) ...
Usually I wanted to leave Kos on Monday, but I had to book another flight on Wednesday as they didn't manage to finish the work in time.
I really hope they improve their service very soon.
In my opinion it is very important to be there when they do repairs on your boat to look what they're doing.
For further details feel free to contact me.

My wife & are arriving Kos on 4th May but I am nervous as I have not had confirmation that my boat, S/Y Sutami, has been antifouled or other requested work completed. Tobi's comments have done nothing to reassure me! I have requested they send photos of work done (like Pierre Dumont used to do) before relaunching but have heard nothing so far.
Kos Marina management may well have shot themselves in the foot by banning local tradesmen form working in the yard.
