Kids' stuff!

I was once talking about the Boat Show to a French guy, and I explained that it was "un grand exhibition a Londres". He fell about laughing and, when he'd recovered, he explained that the French for exhibition is "exposition". Re: Mal de Mere

I lived in France for a while and the local boulangerie employed a woman of Les Dawson-esque features and demeanour. Miserable was not the word (Les Miserable, maybe). So, one day, when being scowled at at the head of the queue I loudly pronounced 'une souris cout rein' and walked out to bemusement all round, having confused 'souris' (mouse) with 'sourire' (smile).

The origin of dyslexia is after the name of the first person diagnosed with the problem. He was Romanian who the psychologists thought was called Dys Lexia but whose actual name turned out to be Syd Aixel.
