I want to replace my old CQR anchor with a new anchor and have narrowed my search to a Kobra 2.
SVB in germany have these at good prices and sensible delivery to Italy see http://www.svb24.com/en/kobra-anchor.html#more_info
I was searching for a sizechart, without success, but that a 14kg Kobra claims to hold a 10.5m boat.
Windway is 34 feet, but weighs nearly 14 tons, so I would go for the next one up which is 16Kg.
This is a 10kg weight saving on the stem, over the CQR which can opnly be a good thing.
Has anyone any idea if the 16kg would do the job?
Thanks

sounds a very prudent idea to go for the 16kg, as it is sized for a 16m boat. There's some work by John Knox on wind effect ('drag' ) on size of boat being as important as the displacement, for strong winds. IIRC it's the chain which then becomes the significant factor.

The sizes from a lot of manufactures are sized for a low windspeed and "good holding" ground. Even then there is desire to list a minimum anchor anchor weight I suspect to entice production boats to fit them as standard.

Have a look at the Rocna table it is a bit more realistic (40k from memory) what size does it say? I would go up at least one size from this table with the Kobra if you plan to anchor overnight often.

The weight in bow is the total weight of the chain and anchor (the anchor is little further out, but the chain is usually much heavier) so a difference of 5-10kg in anchor weight usually has very little impact in the total weight and saling characteristics.

I took the trouble to take a look and as expected they are suggesting much bigger, between 20-25kg

I have a 14Kg Kobra 2 on my 31 foot boat, hasn't been really severely tested yet but has never dragged. I like to lower my anchor by hand and my impression is that the Kobra 2 "bites" into the bottom in a more positive way than the 10Kg Delta which came with the boat as Hunter's standard fit.
