knot problem

so would i but im not overgood with braid on braid and fingers a bit stiff now Im fine with ordanary 3 strand

I would splice.

Alternatives might be to look up that halyard knot that Selden recommend, or Sailorman's suggestion of a buntline hitch is interesting.

It's that simple, is it? :)

As for a different knot being more resistant to flogging, surely that's not possible and there's only so much flog resistance anything needs anyway. Have you ever tried to get a halyard knot undone? It's nigh on impossible if not actually so.

If it's been used under tension (which it probably will be) you have to cut it off. I only tie it once a year so lose a few inches off my halyards each year. This is not a bad thing as it also moves the compression point over the sheave each year. By the time I've run out of halyard length, they will need replacing anyway.
