7mm is tight, should be minimum 10mm to allow movement forward when you go into gear. Which type of cutter do you have?

True, we have seen as much as 9.00mm movement forwards (worst case) so we advise leaving a gap of 12,00 between spool and bearing carrier, stern tube or P bracket. This is for a shaver cutter QuicKutter, not one of the scissor type as has been discussed.
