On Saturday I managed to drop one of the little screws that go into the greaase point on the prop. With great skill, and deterimation, in my attempts to catch it, I managed to kick it into a drain (Clever or what?). Anyway I 'phoned up for some more; I thought half a dozen so as to be safe. They are going to send them free of charge.
WOW!!!

Yes that is them....
Fantastic service all round.

Ah, and the prop is great too /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

This is the feathering prop I believe you are talking about. Im thinking of getting one. care to comment on the before/after and difference it made to sailing/motoring ...... ?
Many Thanks,
Alan

Made a really big difference to ummpf in choppy conditions (we had a 2 blade fixed one before).

Tigger went noticably faster under sail (up to 1Kn perhaps) when we switched.

There is no noise/vibration/shaft turning when sailing.

Reverse is very powerful too. Comes to a halt very rapidly.

Really easy to service.

What else would you like to know?

I'll second their good service. The end of the the greasing spout snapped off and I had to postpone the launch of the boat until I could source a new one. I phoned Vectra and 2 days later a new one arrived FOC.

Alan,
FC has one fitted and there are no plans to put the 2 blade fixed back in place.
Note also - no electrolytic reaction with your propshaft, because it is also stainless.

I thumped stuff hard with mine which took out a chunk at the top of the blade. I feathered it out with a file and wet'n'dry' no problems. It has also survived at least 2 rope chomping sessions with no damage (Stripper do a special for this prop)

Do ensure you absolutely stuff the body full of grease, or the little crusties get in and ruin your day, especially in reverse.

Propwalk is increased, but then so is stopping power.

Service is exemplary, they even sent us Kiwiprop baseball hats for a wedding present.

Agree, I would have one if they made one for a 50hp engine.

Our feathering prop has had to go back because of a corrosion problem that has resulted in the tips needing welding/refilling/reprofiling/rebalancing, my cheque book!

Why they can't make them our of a plastic of some description hencing removing any corrosion problem.

We sail a long keeled 10m ketch and it has had a profound effect. Under engine ahead we don't notice much difference but asterm it gives great stopping power and guarentees that the boat will always swing to port; previously it was always a matter of some surprise which way she would swing, which made planning ahead tricky to say the least! Under sail we are much fast, especially in light winds. Difficult to be precise but its certainly a good buy. No connection with the company, just a satisfied customer.
