The sad death of Kit Hobday, reported in the "News" section of YBW, leaves a great gap in the list of well known yachtsmen over the past 50 years.
There is an excellent obituary in the News section which unfortunately omits the leading part which Kit played in the Little Americas Cup chellenges at the end of the 1960s.
His PR Company, KH Publicity, had Sanderson's Paints as a client and he persuaded Robert Sanderson to sponsor Lady Helmsman which won the Little Americas Cup (C Class Catamarans) 3 years in succession for Great Britain.
Lady Helmsman was built and helmed by Reg White of Brightlingsea and had a very novel rotating mast. She is now in the possession of the National Maritime Museum Cornwall in Falmouth and was on display in the Flotilla Hall for two years. She is at present in store.
Kit was very well known both in the Marine Industry and as a keen and successful sailor and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was a larger than life character of great charm.
