Past by Kingston today for the first time since the lockdown began and it’s Good to see that nothing has changed all the old familiar Liveaboards are still hogging all the available spaces but most important of all the U-boat submerged by the John Lewis moorings Since the beginning of March is still there at least I think it’s a U-Boat but now on reflection because it’s been there for so long and there is no rush to remove it could it be that EA regard this sunken vessel as Kingston’s answer to the Mary Rose and now waiting to assemble a team of archaeologists to recover the wreck And a Voiceover from sir David Attenborough Describing the recovery procedure I suppose understandable there could be a valuable artefacts that need to be Catalogued and preserved for posterity . I feel sure that the EAs View in this situation must be that it would be a terrible shame if this boat was simply removed to make way for a license paying boaters .

If that is the case and the mornings are the responsibility of John Lewis you can safely say that with the state of JLs Financial situation at the moment that the wreck Really will become Kingston’s Mary Rose

If the wreck is removed, I'm sure our old hotel boat chum Alistair will moor one of his premium letting vessels alongside immediately.

From Kingston Council website: Visitor boat moorings | Visitor boat moorings | The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames

Horsefair Quay
Horsefair Quay is located outside John Lewis, adjacent to Kingston Bridge
stop and shop provides free moorings in the daytime (up to 2 hours between 9am and 8pm)
free overnight moorings if you arrive after 8pm
no return within 24 hours
no services are provided

Strangely enough there were very old EA signs there as well last time I moored there.

There was a time when the EA would offer its signage to partner organisations to help manage moorings and I expect that's the case here. Given the climate now, I can't see that happening any more.
