Kingdom - Stephen Fry

It is Wells next the Sea.

Went in there last year for diesel - Interesting entrance, well buoyed but wouldn't fancy it in a northerly

The harbour master came out in a launch and piloted us in.

They have developed some new pontoons since then.

Nice little town

It seems that Stephen Fry lives at Swaffham.

Wasn't he the subject of a musical at some time ? Scandalous behaviour from one of the cloth; would never happen in our time !

Most of the filming was done in Swaffham but the arial shot is of Wells, because they wanted "Market Shipborough" to be a seaside town and Swaffham isn't, iirc?

The magic of television... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Or say it like the locals do: Stiffkey. Stukey is for Stukey Blues and second home owners.

Your last example caused deep merriment on my VHF course : "Am aground Happisburgh sands... I spell Hotel Alpha Zulu Echo..."

Whilst in Norfolk, what about the correct pronunciation of:-

Wymondham
Costessey
Cley
Happisburgh?

'Windham'
'Cossey'
'Clay'
'Hazeborough'

I think TV producers have about 3 "regional" English accents:

Anywhere South of Sheffield with a field has a sort of indeterminate rustic accent something like Rambling Sid Rumpole.

Anywhere North of Sheffield has a blend of Geordie and Scouse - There are no fields north of Sheffield

The 3rd is Cockney/Estuary blend - for those who don't know what a field looks like.

All Scots are from Glasgow

And we don't mention the Welsh.
