It's time for that yearly decision, do I stay or go.

Does or has anyone kept their beloved here, or in the past for a length of time ?
It appears to be in a basin, and protected from all but a swell or blow from the south.

Is it as protected from the elements as it looks ?

Ask Sandy of this parish. I believe there is a "surge" pontoon across the entrance if there's a blow.

It says it will reduce the wave hight to 0.5M and will only be used in exceptional circumstances of SE storms but 0.5M waves in a marina doesn't sound too appealing.

Having said that it looks to be a nice modern facility.

I was a berth holder for three years until July 2021 when I set off on a wee adventure.

The marina is situated in an old basin and extremely well protected with just that narrow entrance, as seen in the picture, on the south side at the far end of Millbay docks. Swell is almost non existent unless there is a south easterly. In all the time I was in the marina the wave protector was only only deployed once in anger. To be honest several vessels had snapped mooring lines, but I considered that the majority of skippers had got so used to no swell that they had gone to a line that was too light. Everybody with 'proper' mooring lines had no breakages.

The marina has about 150 berths, and I am informed that they are selling space for 2022 extremely quickly. I was planning to move from an annual to a summer berth but KP were unable to guarantee me a place. Due to the uncertainty I have made other arrangements otherwise I would still be there. It is quiet, if you want lots of nightlife or a bit of a buzz on the pontoon then find another marina. The facilities consist of a well kept toilet block with washing machines and dryers. There is a restaurant, The Dock, it serves good food, charges silly prices for beer and has a fantastic view over Drakes Island and Plymouth Sound. There is no fuel pontoon or any other services, e.g. a hoist, but you can use any of the other marinas.

Ferries from the mainland use Millbay and in the summer two or three ferries a day would dock occasionally small passenger liners would visit. During docking operations entry or exit to the marina is prohibited. Both MOD Plod and Border Force regularly patrol the marina.

Princess Yachts finish their boats in the marina. As long as you don't mind berthing by passing about £100 million worth of brand new boats that have yet to be delivered to their new owners you will be fine. There is a bit of noise during the day with people working on Princess Yachts.

Any further information you need don't hesitate to DM me.

Glad to be of help. Lets just say that Princess is not to my taste!

Princess yachts are often in KP with a yellow flag, must mean something to them, perhaps please polish me?

I had a very happy winter there last year. The wave barrier was deployed once for a SE gale and there seemed to be no issues with any of the boats. If you want all the bells and whistles on site then it's not for you but the heads and showers are nice and the berth, power and water all good.

Well, PYH did not bother to respond to me. ( they want a deposit to hold a place but cannot say if they have one for 2022)
Mayflower had an offer for me.
King point were very efficient with responses, had 3 free spots, and I was able to choose one with a deposit. Much better system.

Prices have risen again this year. No surprise as demand is high.

Good to hear you got a place, a pal with the same LOA boat as me told me his berthing fees for this year, after I had made other arrangements, I almost spilt my pint at the increase.
