have just had to dissemble the hoses from my toilet to the holding tank after 2 periods of 6 month living aboard, and I have been astounded by the heavy scale build up. as much as 6mm in places.

has anyone found a way of getting rid of this without taking the system to bits? i'm thinking of chemicals that can be flushed through the system

I've heard coca cola does a good job, but mild hydrchloric acid will shift it, or vinegar, basically anything that will dissolve a calcium build up. there is a cleaner called "viakal", which dissolves scale, you can also use fresh water to flush your toilets, this stops the scale forming. If you use mild hydrochloric, pump it through the system, then close the seacock to allow it to work, it will caiuse a lot of buvbling etc, which is carbon dioxide, so dont asphixiate yourself! The best way I've found, is to remove the pipes and beat them an any local rocks, until it fallls out.

When I managed to block the toilet there was luckily a dinorod man on another boat. Amaising how much lime scale was loosend in the proccess. Or just try rattling the pipes and flushing them through.

No one can force me to come here-----------
