kettle gimbals

Our 1981 Golden Hind has its original gas cooker/2 ring burner but sadly none of the adjustable metal gimbals for holding kettles/pans etc in place.

We tried a chandlery and were told by a rather sniffy man that the cooker was so old it was a hazard and should be removed immediately, and no, none of his gimbals would fit. Any suggestions? We cant be the only people sailing with an old cooker. Can we improvise or are we destined to forever worry that the kettle will fly off during a particularly strong gust?

Do you mean gimbals or pan clamps? Taylors paraffin stoves are provided with pan clamps, and you can probably buy them as spares and adapt them to fit. Try this man here. If you really do mean gimbals I'm not sure I've been of any use to you!

Remember the old days when we used metal curtain wire with hooks to hold the pans and the kettle in place? Will they make a come back? ever so cheap.

Given the age of your cooker it may not have flame failure devices. If so it does not comply with insurance requirements and could be dangerous for obvious reasons. In that case best to replace with a modern one, the cost of which never fails to astound me.

Or replace it with an Origo spirit stove, remove all gas hazards at a stroke and liberate the space where the gas bottles were!
