I sailed into Poole Harbour a couple of weekends ago and was completely captivated by a the above boat, I have managed to find out quite a lot of things about her, mainly that she was used by her then (maybe current) owner in a series of films for Ch4 called Atlantic Britain. My question is simply this, having tried Ch4, I am unable to find any copies of this series on video or dvd, anybody got them sitting on a VHS somewhere or something like that? Any help in obtaining copies of the series would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Fran

Yep, lovely boat 40 ft plus, 22 tons. I spoke with her owner when moored up in the Poole Yacht Haven. Nice guy, owned her a couple of years (post Atlantic Britain) and mostly single hands her!

Err, think the presenter was a Nicolson (sp ?). Not the Camper sort but from the quite camper sorts who started Sissinghurst as a gardening beacon. He looks a bit like Cardew Robinson, which is unfair but gives you an idea, owns an island in the Minch somewhere and wrote quite a good book about that. I remember bits about the series and shared his preference for the coasts of the Atlantic rather than those of more enclosed and degenerate seas.

One bit that did not get into the film was the skipper sleeping below while sailing singlehanded in the Minch. I had to take evasive action to prevent Auk's bowsprit from getting tangled between my backstays! Enjoyed quoting rule 13 to the skipper in front of the owner and his sound recordist when they berthed in Stromness though. A few days later the skipper was doing the rounds looking for a crew to help sail to the Faroes

Very nice boat though - think the owner said it was built in Germany.

Would that be Ben Nicolson who owns/owned the Shiant Islands? He certainly wrote a rather good book 'Sea Room' about them.
