As they have had their RS Feva dinghy for a few weeks and are getting quite full of themselves at times I thought it was time to take them down a peg. I took out one of the club Fevas for yesterday's race (singlehanded) and beat them by miles.

It was a big day for the 14 year old when he first beat me at pool. How long before he beats me in a sailing race?

Lol....

A frightening thought......

Don't count on it being too long!

We have friends who race to a pretty high standard... and their 15yr old boys regularly thrash them on handicap in a Feva.......and indeed much of the rest of the club...even though the club counts quite a few national champions in its midst.... step aside... here comes the next generation.....

Sorry, DJE, that sounded a lot more judgemental than it was meant to. I guess you are no different from me in that these situations generate a mixture of dented ego and pride in son and heir's ability but mostly the latter. The little buggers do get a bit full of themselves at times, I must admit.

You're right, generally I'm imensely proud of them both. But I've been trying for weeks to tell him that he is trying to point too high and so not sailing fast enough. His sister, who crews the boat, tells him the same thing; but of course nobody can tell a 14 year old anything. So perhaps by going out and showing him the lesson might sink in. I live in hope.

humh.....

I once interviewed a guy for a position that would have been his first time with Line Management responsibilities.....

When asked about his thoughts and experiences in managing difficult situations and staff he responded (paraphrasing)....

"I have a well rounded, decent, likeable 18yr old son. He is extremely competitive, and self confident. If I can manage a teenager with those attributes to reach that outcome, I feel confident in doing the same with a difficult team member....."

Well what could I say........ he got the job!

Re: No line management position for me then

Ain't got a cat, allergic to them, but the dog's a bitch as well!
