Wansworth - I've always assumed you were a UK Citizen (Subject) living as an ex pat in Spain? if that's right you have no such restrictions. Is the boat already on the Part 1 or Part 3 (SSR) UK Ship Register? If so you'll need to check if you can keep it on the same register. If not you don't even need to tell the government you've bought it so I can't see an issue until you want to take it out the country and then its much more likely to be of interest to the Spanish (or French en route) - we are very laid back on boat paperwork here.

Yes as a U.K. passport holder you have unlimited right to travel to the U.K. regardless of your residence.

Didn't you buy a have boat in the UK previously and decide that such a set up wasn't for you after all?

I suppose an advantage is that when half the population of the UK is cramming on planes to get to sunnier climes you can take advantage of the cheap empty seats going the other way. ;)
Yes this is more planning just a few years then sail back, anyway nothing determined waiting to see the Spanish gestoria in Vigo
