Keenol grease

There was a thread on the availability of Keenol a couple of months ago: <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.ybw.com/cgi-bin/forums/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=pbo&Number=350503> see here</A>. There were rumours that Castrol have discontinued it.

Re: Castrol (Wakefields) didn\'t make Keenol

I thought Duckhams had been taken over by Castrol. Am I wrong?

I'm sure there is a suitable Castrol product. The range of greases available on the retail market is described on the 'tins' but you may find it necessary to shop around to find the product you want. Halfords tend to stick to high volume sales items, they didn't have Castrol Heavy when I last wanted it but a local independent car spares shop keep it because they know the local sailing club members use it for their trailer wheel bearings.

They still run out of Milton Keynes as "Duckhams Ltd" as far as I know.

Re: Castrol (Wakefields) didn\'t make Keenol

Apparently Castrol took over Duckhams and discontinued Keenol. Most chandlers now stock Aqua Slip made by Marine Chemi Technics (who I think are a Tetrosyl company). The problem is, Keenol is said to have been lithium based whereas Aqua slip and others are calcium based - not compatible. A very helpful chap at Chemi Tech did not know the spec of Keenol. The only hope is to find someone with a shelf full of old stock Keenol - anyone seen any lately??

Thanks for that MedMan, and what a good firm they are too. Phoned, ordered, got the next day, the genuine Duckhams Keenol. What a great business opportunity for a small firm/person, if only I could get the formula!!
