I have my Westerly Storm on the market. One viewer likes the boat but is concerned with some rust around the keel bolts. He said he has seen a lot worse, but as they are stainless he thinks it is more of a cause for concern.

As far as I can remember they have been like that since I bought the boat, and there was no mention of them in the survey. I check the keel for movement and seepage on every lift out and there is none.
I would be interested to hear members opinions especially from any Westerly owners.

Par for the course. GRP breaking away and bilgewater sitting there. Unlikely to cause any real damage and may well just be the washers. Like blood a little bit of rust staining goes a long way.

Thanks that was my thoughts.
Unfortunately the Storm doesn't have an anchor locker that drains over board, any water coming down the hawser pipe is drained into the bilges via limber holes.

You could pull a couple (one at a time) to check condition. It could be that A2 has been used instead of A4 on the bolts or washers. It shouldn't stick to a magnet.

Not good design made worse by glassing over the nuts. Just have to live with it.

You could chip the flow coat away(there does not appear to be any actual GRP over the bolts) and inspect them, there's probably no significant corrosion as the flow coat would have come away if there was; alternatively just get rid of the staining with oxalic acid and wait for a less fussy buyer.

Damn! I've been rumbled
