I inherited a mine retrieval lanyard that I am minded to use for a stern mounted kedge warp.
To stow this, it would be nice to use a (preferably powered) reel maybe below deck (with the necessary drainage of course).
Anybody know if such a beast exists commercially please?

Most reeling winches are a tad too big for most yachts. Would the sort of winch you get on the front of a Landrover do the job? The other source that springs to mind is the fishing industry though most small fishing boats that I've seen don't store their lines on a reel, but use a capstan type arrangement to haul it in and store it in a box.

Thanks for that. Although the landrover winch wouldn't stow neatly, you have inspired another approach. The "fisherman's box" could be the way to go as the lanyard is flat and would maybe, if fed properly, concertina flat. Not as compact as a reel but still a possibility.

I remember seeing someone mounting a big plastic drum (as for hose pipe) strung on a loop of bungy which winds up like the old rubber-powered planes as the warp is let out, then re-coils it as you pull in the anchor.
