Kedge anchor question. Is there any reason not to use ...

The only reason I can see you wouldnt wire up the the shackles is if it were rope-chain and you intend to use the rope as a long tow rope etc. For the link to the anchor and for linking lengths of chain, I would also seize it up.

I wouldn't seize the rope on with wire because if you were to use it as a tow rope, then it would be easier to undo from the chain. If worried about it coming undone, then use a big cable-tie to mouse instead (as it can be cut off with a knive).

Just DON'T use copper wire!!!!! Needs to be galvanised wire or cable ties.

Just in case you don't understand, Copper acts with steel/ iron like a battery and the threads of the shackle pin will be the first to return to electrons - so the shackle pin falls out!

It's not a bad idea to tow by a chain. The chain gives you a deeper catenary, and absorbs shocks better.

Surely, nylon, with its 20% stretch, would be a far better choice? Your catenary would have to droop nearly 30 degrees to give the same stretch, and anyway, all its force comes in with a bang over the last 1 or 2% of the takeup.
