Hi Folks,

I have sliding companionway hatch that is leaking.

The hatch rests on two moulded sliders that are part of the coach roof. This has a hatch garage over the front, and two stainless strips to prevent the hatch from being lifted off.

It seems that water runs off the hatch, under the strips then into the "dip" outboard of the runners. These then fill with water and come in under the hatch itself.

Any suggestions?

The boat is a Sigma 400. Are there any other 400 owners on the forum?

Cheers,

John

No one else has replied so...
Without having been on this Sigma I doubt it is a design problem.
I take it that this is a recent development?
Have you tried flushing out the garage with a hose squirted at mains water pressure(yes I know it will leak into the cabin, initially!).
It does sound as though there is an obstruction of crud under there and there may be drain holes in the sides of the garage which need poking with a coathanger. The hose should produce an outflow of dirt, slime crud and and and...
If that does not help, can the hatchgarage be unscrewed and removed to have a proper looksee?

Re: leaking companionway

Cheers for that.

All the runs are clear, and I have already lifted the hatch to double check.

It seems to have been an ongoing as when I checked under the deck head the battens that the interior panels are attached to where rotten in places and we have had to have the heads bulkhead partially replaced again due to rot.

Damned annoying that the previous owner chose to live with damp bits instead of sorting the problem!

We got the boat in June, so are still working through some of the inherited problems.

Cheers,

John
