Does anyone know of places on the Thames, in or close to London, where I can rent a kayak for the day?

What type of Kayak are you after ? The extreme sport get wet one or the paddle down the river and chill out one ?

Those look nice, but I was thinking of kayaking on the Thames in London, where it's probably too fast-flowing looking at their spec
