We're just in the process of installing a Katadyn Powersurvivor 80E watermaker and I'm not sure if the silt reduction kit is worthwhile. It's just a second finer filter with a small pump added to it but not cheap.

Anyone have one/doesn't have one/wishes they had one etc...
Watermaker will be used in trans-Atlantic and Carib anchorages. Perphaps in the med as well?

Thanks.

I never needed a silt reduction kit, in the meddy anyway, cant see any reason for it in the caribe either and definitely not trans-atlantic. Had a katadyn 80e for a few years, good machine, simple.

That's kind of what I want to hear but I'm wondering if sand particles might not be a problem in shallow anchorages? (relatively speaking, we draw 2.20m)
