I am still in search of a cruising chute furling system. I understand that the Karver Top Down furler is good. Does anyone have experience of using one for real?

Thanks

I have used this Karver system and while these systems are still developing rapid i believe this is one of the best out there. The best advice i can offer is upgrade to the latest torsional luff that has the least amount of twist.

Yes. On our boat it did not work well at all, especially furling in anything other than very light airs when it was most definitely not a short-handed operation. We have sent it back and are awaiting delivery of a North Sails Snuffer-plus.

It may be a different story on a smaller boat.

The TD system and the required kevlar torsion stay are also very expensive.

I think for now Magnum has the right idea, they are just not quite up to scratch and given the choice would go back to snuffer, perhaps the new inflatable one?!

We have chosen a carbon bucket, mainly because that's all North Sails offer. We'll consider whether an inflatable bucket would be a worthwhile upgrade after we have used (and stored) it a few times.
