Searching for a new fishing style boat i am interested by this model either in twin d 3 Volvo engine or single d 4 ,does somebody have some experience with this boat and engines?

Which could be other alternatives similar boats fitted with diesel engines?

Many thanks

François

Obvious alternatives are the likes of Beneteau, Jeanneau, Ocqueteau etc. Then there are the host of American boats - Grady White, Boston Whaler etc though these tend to be fitted with twin petrol outboards at that size.

I think you asked this question a while ago? Forum member bartw has one and I expected him to respond but maybe he's busy. You could try a pm (private message) as he's normally a helpful chap.

As you may remember my previous boat was same as yours a Karnic 2460 but I have now moved onto a Rodman 870 which I find much better for fishing space if not for the wind in the hair feeling :)
I did look at the 2760 but thought the layout was not very good for fishing. The seating right across the stern which is on top of the engine cover would get in the way when landing fish and you wouldn't want those lovely looking seats to get all mucky. Now the Karnic 2965 is a different beast and if the budget stretches imo is well worth a look.

Hello Martin,

being in mediterranean sea i prefere an open fishing boat but there are very few in diesel version!Do you have some ideas?

Do you experienced the D 4 engine?

François

Hi Francois,

as I told you in a PM some time ago, I'm still not ready to sell our Karnic 2660 (despite the very little use I have with her)
will keep her for at least one more year.

I'm not looking at sport fishers anymore, but at the time I was quite impressed with Rodman's , ..
how about Seaswirl , White Shark, or Boston Whaler ?
none with Diesel inboard ?

When we were in Toulon many years back, there was a old Bertram in that marina, from a local,
she was in need for some TLC, but nevertheless I've alway's liked that boat,
she was slichtly bigger, something like 33..35ft, and it was a FB model, (very small FB)
she had a large beam, so a lot of cockpit space ...

my limitation was that the boat needed to be trailable, but you don't have that restriction,
so you have many more options ?

Hello Bart,

yes there are some more options having in mind that i want an open one and for consuption reasons a diesel one..... and that is the question...

Hope i'll find before summer time!

Hello Martin,

i'm also interested buy the rodman, please could you say me what power you got ,engine and wich is your max speed and crusing one?
Many thanks
François

Francois I have the Rodman 870adv fly with twin volvo D3 170hp engines on shafts. The boat tops out at 26 knots with a cruising speed of between 18-22knots at 3200-3500 revs depending on tides etc. WOT the engines rev at 4200.
They do the 870 with a single D4 which I believe gives a similar performance but I do not have any personal experience of this engine.

It is usually only my son and I fishing but we can fish 3 comfortably or 4 at a push but I only do this if we are inshore fishing. Had the boat for just over 2 years now and I still enjoy using it

What are your options now?

Hello Martin,

i'm still looking and in fact perhaps going to the rodman 870 with single D 4 engine.

The fly bridge seems very interesting for mediterranean sea conditions and trolling ,please let me know if you use it often and if it is convinient on this size boat ?

Many thanks
François

I finaly went to a new Karnic 2760 with a single D 4 300HP wih perform very well 20 Nots at 2200 rpm ,37 Knts at 3500!

Handling is perfect and consumption correct!Space Inside is ok!

I'm very pleased after 60 hours

François

i'll put some asap!

For this purpose the boat is perfect ,very quick to go between France and Corsica to reach ligurian current where they stay and trolling with 11 fishing rods.....great!

Congrats on your choice of boat Francois but don't get those cushions dirty, or did you get them to make you one with none at the rear?

Must admit I went on one at the Southampton boat show 3 or 4 years ago and loved it but was drawn to the larger 2965 however, because of my bad experience with outdrives finally went with the Rodman on shafts.

many thanks,
outdrives need a good service, with my previous boat that was ok up to 2200 hours except cone clutch to change once!

i'm very pleased with the speed of the 2760!

I'll take attention of the cushions!!!
