Hello everyone. I own a Karnic 2250 which is moored in Greece, build in 2006 and sporting a Honda BF150 outboard. The max speed I can attain is 30-31 knots, while my usual cruising speed at 4200 rpm is 24 knots. I am very satisfied with the boat itself, but I am now tempted to trade my current engine for a BF200, or for any other 200 hp engine that is well regarded for that matter.

The downside of course is that I would have to splash some 5-6000 pounds for the trade to be effected. Therefore I would be very interested to know what kind of performance increase both in terms of speeds ( max and cruising ) and of overall boat behavior I should expect if such a trade takes place. Any 2250 owners out there with 200hp engines to share their experience ( or people owning 150hp engines to compare performances ) ? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

This is purely an uninformed guess, you understand, but I think you might see a 10% increase in top speed with a similar or greater increase in fuel consumption. I repeat, it's just a guess, but someone who knows will be along shortly, so just keep watching. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have a performance table from Karnic, from all their models, usually these are theoretical values, calculated and not taking in to account eventual extra weight, condition of boat and engine, etc, but it gives a ruff idea on % improvement you can expect. The table shows for 2250 and 2260 (is same boat with inboard):
Honda 130 HP 32kn
Johnson 150 HP 37kn
Johnson 175 HP 41kn
Mercruiser 195HP 48kn

48kn seemes a little high, but around 45kn can be expected from 200HP on a 22ft boat, when everything in good shape and not too heavy loaded.

cruising speed for boats of this size is usually between 20 to 25 kn
