Engine: Volvo MD2B on pressing the easistart(or cold start) button on the fuel pump the button refuses to stay down. Usually this device stays operated until the engine starts then pops up again without this device the engine is a pig to start. Can anyone help. Thanks

I believe you have to move the throttle to centre, press the button, then gently close the throttle and the button will stay depressed. Something like that anyway. It's in the manual somewhere.

no experience of this engine, but, with many mechanical pumps (if fitted) check stop lever / control is in the run position.

I assume you have the owners manual, if not, or for the benefit of others tempted to make random suggestions with reference to it, it can be downloaded from

I have heard of trouble with these cold start buttons before. IIRC part the latching system becomes worn and they don't stay down.

I have seen a simple remedy but I do not recall the details. There's one out there somewhere perhaps someone else will know it
