Bit of a long shot...

The alternator output terminal on the KAMD43 has two wires attached. One (the smaller) disappears into the wiring loom, but the heavier of the two appears to be attached to a heavy bolt on the side of the block.

Now, clearly that is not an earth connection, else the alternator would go pop, so is it some kind of insulated busbar that takes the alternator output back to the main +12V feed on the starter motor?

And what is the other wire doing? Where does that one run once it goes into the harness?

Assume you mean the red wires. The heavier guage should go direct to +30 terminal on the solenoid of starter motor which is then connected to the battery + terminal via the isolator switch.
The smaller of the two is connected to the Start relay and is then daisy chained to the push button fuse on the black box and feeds from the fuse to +30 terminal of the ignition switch. There is also a supply from the fuse to the supercharger.
