Hi,

I have the above engine in my 2004 Jeanneau Merry Fisher 925.

We went over to the boat two weeks ago to give her a start, having been out on her in previous weeks with no problems.

She didn’t want to play, as there was no red light over the key symbol on the EDC panel when it came to trying a start. I tried again from the flybridge panel with the same result, so no voltage to either EDC panel is the assumption. No red light and no green light with N pressed. Nada.

All connectors to both panels and the ECU have been checked and seem ok, as have all the fuses I can find. Without any schematics or circuit diagrams, I am in the dark as to what voltage I am supposed to be looking for from the ECU – I am guessing millivolts, but don’t want to go too far without specific knowledge or guidance from a more knowledgeable source.

This fault is really quite annoying and frustrating, especially as there have been no previous intermittent faults with the ECU. So my thinking is that the fault can only really be a bad connection or a faulty wire in one of the many looms or connectors involved in the EDC supply circuitry, rather than it being with the ECU itself?

Has anyone had the same problem? The VP Manual gives no help at all. Have I knocked the ECU out with repeated EDC button presses?

This is the first big fault I have had with the boat, which I have had since March last year. I love boating and this is a pain in the arse for us! Lack of opportunity has meant we have not been out on her as much as we wanted, but that’s the same for all of us, I guess.

I have searched this forum and others for the same problem with no luck.

I hope there is someone out there who can point me in the right direction with this, before I have to call in a VP Engineer with diagnostic software to investigate the fault.

Thanks for reading this far!

I am no expert but can I pre-empt the more informed people by asking whether the other systems on the boat are working, that your batteries are up to the mark and that a breaker hasn't tripped - all of which have affected other forumites in the past

I have 2 x KAD 300s in my last boat.

From memory - and it is only from memory... - there is a black box on top of the engine. This has a tiny breaker poking out of the side. You can open it up - from memory you dont even need a screw driver.

Just a thought as if it is dead it is probably power related, and breakers tend to be scattered all over the place.

Volvo Paul will be along in a moment to tell me I am wrong!

+ 1 the little back box in side there is a kinda trip switch which pings out - click it back in .
Lid is held on with thumb screws from memory .
Assuming you have enough battery juice ?

Had same problem with one of our KAD300's, it used to be a very intermittent problem that would eventually clear itself if you shut down all power for about 15 minutes or so. However, a few weeks back had the same problem but this time more permanent and they eventually diagnosed that an engine start power regulator module needed replacing. It us quite small, about half the size of a deck of cards and cost about £400.00, seems to have sorted the problem though.
