KAD43 Volvo Genuine Fuel Filter 3840335 - You'll see that it only has one o-ring on the edge of the filter

However, people have been saying Mahle KC68 is a cross-reference and have heard of people using it before, however it has 2 o-rings

Any opinions? I'm not after a 'just buy the genuine part, it's only a few quid extra', just want to know if this filter *can* be used... I don't even have KAD43's :) BTW, physically it fits perfect and makes a good seal, even after being used for a season no signs of spillage or a loss in revs

The inner Seal ring isn't going to affect anything. A small (tiny tiny) amount of fuel weeping through the threads internally and bypassing the filter will not matter. A filter with the seal should work OK, and Mahle is a very good German make.

I would consider removing the inner seal, but as long as the outer seal sits down and seals external leaks then all would be fine.

These filters are really very common across most VP engines and I have a list of various makes that will do the same job. I buy mine from China though my business - Rongsun Headman, who manufacture for plenty of mainstream names I understand.

Volvo Penta do not I expect make the filters, they just get a filter maker (e.g. like Headman) to re-badge to their order.

Other excellent makes are Baldwin, Wix, Cooper, Unipart, Crosland, Fram, Fleetguard, Donaldson ......

I would suggest next time you change a filter keep the old and then chop the end off with a Hacksaw, so you can see what has been collected, and how they are put together.

I've been using Mahle filters for ages without issue, I just got a shock today when I looked at cross-reference vs. genuine and noticed that the Mahle had 2 o-rings.

The Mahle with two o-rings will work just fine as long as the outer o-ring tightens
If you want a more exact cross over you could go for Donaldson P553004 or Fleetguard FF5018
With drain Delphi/CAV HDF496 will also work fine
