Hello peoples - time to call on the grater knowlwedge base again.....

A while back we reported starting problems with our S23 which we thought may have been related to dry berthing and air locks in the cooling system - which was totally on the wrong tack as we have now realised :)

It would seem that the problem is related to the neutral selector - i.e. the boat must be in neutral before we attempt to start it. Now obviously we make sure that she is in neutral before we start however our perception of neutral doesn't always coincide with the boats perception.

The question is .... how does the boat think it's in neutral - is there a microswitch or something which completes the starting circuit and if so where is it, so that I can make sure it's not broken, dirty etc etc?
Answers on the back of a fag packet / forum greatly appreciated.

Its in the control box and is a microswitch operated by the gear shift which breaks the crank circuit, you could try starting it in free, by pressing the button or pulling the handle out depending on whch type of throttle you have.

i would think either on your control lever there will be a micro switch or on the gearbox somwhere nr the operating lever,
look for or 2 wires normally if it a manual type ie micro switch you can disconnect the wires from the switch ,join them together and bypass the switch.
if its a single wire it may be that the sensor makes an earth when it contacts.if it does you could bolt the wire to any suitable point and again bypass it
