One of the two bolts at the lower end of the bracket supporting the turbocharger and its spacer were found under the engine during my routine engine bay check today. I perhaps dont look so closely under there very often so the bolt may not have fallen out today.
The threads in the bolt are slightly damaged and the bolt doesn't fit through the spacer ...
looks like the hole on the spacer has always been too small as it looks like the bolt had tried to cut a thread into the spacer.
The spacer looks too short for the gap between the bracket and the engine.

I will buy a new bolt and spacer if the VP price is sensible. If not the threads will clean up and washers are cheap.

In the meantime need I be worried about running the engine?
We are on the river and will only be going slow.

I wouldn’t worry too much, sounds like the bolt might have partially eaten the spacer on it’s way out.

New bolt and spacer plus some threadlock would be my approach - vibration caused other bolts in that area to fall out on me too, esp the bracket that supports the intake pipe.

We run with one for a long time until we realised it had fallen out. This is a RIB that takes a bit of a pounding. Didn't make any difference but fished it out the bilge and refitted it.

I obtained a new bolt and spacer as the originals were damaged.
The new spacer will not slip into the space.
Looks like an awkward job (due to restricted access) to undo all fixings to allow the bracket to move sufficiently to fit the spacer.

I think the other three fixings will need to be slackened off to allow the bracket to move a little in order to allow the spacer to be inserted.
With the air filter removed I hope to have enough space. However I am not as flexible as I used to be.
A little job for another weekend.

I assumed the plate was under tension when originally installed

I imagined the bracket not really doing any work while the engine is not running. It looks to me like it would be fitted only after the turbocharger is fitted.

With the air filter removed and two of the other bolts loosened (one of which I located by touch) the bracket moved enough to slide the spacer into place.
If the new bolt had been 1mm longer it would not have cleared the exhaust pipe.

All now fixed this afternoon.
In the end not as troublesome as I had expected.
