Hi folks,
Starter on one of my KAD300's is making a weird noise when cranking.... it's a 2003 boat so starter owes me nothing.... just replace it ASAP.

While i've no desire to purchase OEM (Volvo don't make starters... looking at old threads, the original starters weren't great, according to Volvopaul), I want to ensure that I purchase a quality aftermarket part.

Any idea of recommended manufacturers / part no's? I buy a lot of general chandlery from SBV24: https://www.svb24.com/en/starter-12-v-for-volvo-penta-30-31-32-44-series-ka-m-d-300-2003-t.html
- Ive emailed them asking for the brand, but its always sensible to ask here too!

Thanks folks.

Thanks for the info - I'd be happier buying from the likes of SVB as they have a track record of excellent customer service etc. (been buying from them for years) - was just wondering if anyone knew about the brand 'PSH' - I've never gotten 'cr4p' hardware from SVB, so i'll take a chance on it!

That's a great price if it's from a decent brand.

I forgot to mention i'm in Ireland... purchasing from UK is almost a non runner these days.

Must admit my first thought would be to have the starter motor reconditioned but guess that may not be an option,
Have you checked to see if it's not something simple like the fixing bolts have become loose?

Thanks folks. Volvopaul (when I was Googling) had said in an earlier thread that the OE starters weren't the best... i've gotten over 20 years and 1000 hours... time to change, hence the lack of interest in reconditioning (bad experience with alternators).

A €300 item once every 20 years is fine in my books.... hopefully won't be too much of a dose to replace... it's the stbd engine so less space, but should be do-able from memory. I'm hoping to get the rest of the season (about 20 more cranks) out of it and replace when i'm back at the home marina, but it'll be there on-board if it lets me down in the meantime.
