After travelling 70 miles at around 3000 revs and between 16 - 21 knots depending on the sea state. I arrived in port, selected neutral to Moore alongside and realised that my port engine / outdrive remained in forward gear, additionally when selecting reverse with the port engine it didn't go into reverse but in fact increased revs / speed forward!! The only way to stop the engine was to switch the ignition off using the key, now, when I switch the port engine ON it is immediately in gear and drives forward, from then on it performs perfectly throughout the full range of revs in forward only.
Any suggestions much appreciated ...

sounds to me that either the cable has snapped for gear selection or the mounting bolts that hold the cable in place have vibrated loose and your cable had become detached resulting in the outdrive being left in gear. The reason when you try reverse that the revs increase is that the throttle lever is doings its job by adding revs when reverse is selected but your gear cable is not moving the gears to reverse.

Spent 30 mins on a long reply and deleted it by mistake grrrr. Give me a ring on 07973159930 I had all sorts of similar problems and worse but 2 new actuators fixed all of them.

Hi
I had the same problem whilst trying to anchor in Newtown Creek a few years ago, with KAD43's. the port engine was behaving perfectly but the starboard engine was "locked" in forward regardless of the EVC lever position. Killing the engine was the only way to stop the forward drive. Worryingly starting it again caused it to start in gear! Having scared the life out of the nearby boats we beat a hasty retreat to the safety of open water. Checked the operating manual and found a fuse (near the alternator I think) that controlled the EVC actuator.
I changed the fuse and bingo we had full control again.
Whilst I felt "epic" having solved the issue without the need for Sea Start, the rest of the family decided they were neither brave enough or confident enough to head back into Newton Creek and terrify the poor folk enjoying their lunch on the hook.
It's not often you solve a boating problem for the cost of a fuse; normally the local VP engineer relieves you of a lot more but you might be lucky...
