Hi folks, on the last run of last year, (west mersea to Orwell , Ipswich for bonfire night, on return trip, approx. 5 miles from home cruising at 22knots the port engine started slowing down, slowly loosing power, got us back on the plane, but at end of trip port engine down to 2500 rpm, stb engine up to 3500 rpm .. just kept boat on plane.. any ideas? thanks in advance....

I am thinking lack of fuel flow i.e blocked filters but i am sure there will be some one come along with far more knowledge than i have .

I had a problem with my single kad32 last year, there was just no power.
A couple of weeks before it lost power I had the air filter box off to get to the starter battery to change it, the filter was off for about a week until I could replace the battery before I put it back on, during this time unbeknown to me probably from my tool box 2 mice had took refuge in the inlet for the air. I caught the mice and hoovered the nest out poking the Hoover pipe with a plastic straw taped to it right down the welly top part of the intake thinking I had got it all out.
I had a marine engineer check the engine trying to find the problem for loss of power, he eventually found the remains of a nest blocking the air intake to the turbo, from memory I think it had been sucked through the supercharger first.
My first port of call would be to definatly check the air filter for any blockage just to rule it out, it might be worth changing all the filters if they havn't been changed recently just in case, it could be a cheap solution to your proplem and probably something that may need doing anyway.

The mouse in the house would cause heavy black smoke and loss of power, but more likely the fuel filter needs changing or just let the water out of the bottom of the housing.?

Fuel filters as suggested are the first thing to change and probably the cause of the fault. You may get away with just changing the primary filter. But would suggest changing the primary filters on both engines if you have only one fuel tank.
Also might be wise to consider a dose of diesel bug treatment.
Other cause of power loss can be slipping drive belts. Or I did hear of one with an air leak at a joint in the ducting between the supercharger and turbo.
Air filters, if required, are very easily replaced and are not expensive if bought from the motor factors.

We had similar with our single KAD32 in July last year. Revs slowly dropped down until the boat would no longer plane. Several attempts later and it still refused to plane so we had to limp home, fortunately not very far just across the Wash, at 5 knots.

When we got back into Boston we changed the fuel filters, both of which were clean. Checked air filter and crankcase filter etc. all of which were clear. Took the boat for a run and it jumped onto the plane. So we were still none the wiser.

The lack of performance didn't occur again for the rest of the year so we are still non the wiser as to what was at fault.

We fitted a turbo boost pressure gauge which showed that the turbo was performing as it should.

Hopefully it won't reoccur this year!
