Kad 300 coolant

20 litres of Volvo Penta branded ready mixed green coolant from Newark marina was quoted at £75.60 from Newark Marina (in February 2018).
I would be interesting to see alternatives .

I think the alternatives may be blue in colour these days and probably cheapest if purchased as concentrated and diluted with water.
The following would work out at about £25 for 20 litres if diluted 50% with tap water . I am not certain if it is appropriate .

I don't know the brand, but i've been using green coolant with an Eskimo on the label for over 10 years now and all good.

Costs me €40 for 20 litres concentrate (mix 50 / 50 with soft water, so I can do 2 x engines for €40).

Next time i'm in the shed i'll have a look at the brand.

Hi - what is the coolant used in a kad 300 is it a volvo only supply or can it bought at a motor factors?
Jon

You can use any brand of the same type.
If the engine cooling system currently contains VP coolant VCS ( yellow) then use an OAT ( organic acid technology) / long life / advanced type of antifreeze ( usually red or yellow)

if it contains green VP coolant then use a conventional low silicate type of antifreeze ( sometimes called "inorganic acid technology" and usually blue or green), sold for "older engines"

Do not mix the two types!

If your tap water is high in dissolved solids (>340ppm) or hard ( > 170 ppm CaCO3) either use distilled ( or deionised ) water to dilute the concentrate or buy it ready diluted.

Look up the specifications for the recommended coolant and compare them to the aftermarket suppliers as only a few aftermarket producers supply them for all engine types.

Thanks for the replies so far.
The coolant in my engine is green.
I think green was used in the more modern MG sports car?

IF you have a green supplier the post a link. Volvo is very expensive for i am sure no real reason.

My feeling was if someone looked at it to buy ( it’s not for sale ) they would expect green. Mostly likely illogical! D12 use a lot of coolant !

Afaik, the color is not to be trusted as there are both ethylene and propylene glycols around in green.

Volvo uses ethylene based glycol so make sure to get similar regardless of colour.

Happy to be corrected on this if someone knows better, though.
