I have worked with a lot of blokes who have worked in Saudi and they have generally come home shocked. Some determined womanisers were horrified by what they saw out there when it comes to human rights with respect to the fairer sex. It is normal out there, but it does not make it right.

An example, when the 'father' dies the oldest son automatically inherits the estate, it is common that he will throw the mother onto the street as she has no importance to him. There are a lot of old women begging on the streets in the towns in Saudi.

It is also illegal for fathers to have sex with their sons once they are over the age of 12!

Women can be stoned to death for adultery !

No, I think Kilroy was spot on, just misguided, or as offered mistakenly making his thoughts heard like this in a public forum, especially as his job is supposed to be impartial.

As a shift worker, I really won’t miss Kilroy in the mornings lol.

Personally, having been around during Kilroy's tv's 17 years and aware of his career before TV, I am saddened by the way he has been treated.
I am from Irish decent (1st generation) being brought up in England) I follow England devotely. I have worked all over the country and my 2 children have had to change schools whenever we have moved.
I have played rugby for some good sides over the years including Bracknell and Blaydon and in doing so have met some great people just like I have with sailing which I have done since a child.
Why do the true English people continually take the criticsm from the ethnic 's.
England gave me my opportunty and ability to compete and share. every time, we in England say or print anything about countries like Saudi, Muslims, asians or blacks etc there hell to play.
The Saudi's did execute the princess for adultry.
They do chop off limbs of offenders
We do sell arms to them.
Why is that we dot stand up and SHOUT to the roof tops that we (yes me) are proup to be English.
Sadly Kilro has resigned, despite excellent support from his fans. The BBC should be ashamed by taking an impartial stance instead of taking a position that would have been in total contrast to other nation TV's i.e. They would have supported their own.
Terry Wogan Has been in the spot light, comparing the Eurovision politics with this recent debacle. It's a pity that we don't generate more angst over this and really show England that there is an endigenous species.

Peter.

I think the fact that Kim will probably have to pull this post in the interests of political correctness (and to avoid a Fatwah and the possiblilty of an aerial assault on Kings Reach Tower) says it all.

Thank goodness that dreadful programme has now gone. However his remarks do seem to strike a chord with many people. Amusing however that an ex politician has now fallen on the sword of political correctness!

During my life I've had the pleasure of meeting only two kinds of people, those I like and those I do not. Those I am proud to call friends fall within a broad band that owes nothing to colour, ethnic origin or sexual orientation, having said that if Kilroy has an opinion why the hell should he not be allowed to express it. We may or may not agree with what is being said but is that not one of the things that set us apart from some of the draconian regimes that he mentions, I personally do not believe everything I have read in the Bible, Yet have no problem with those who do. I am able to write this on an open forum whilst expressing those same sentiments in some of the countries Kilroy has listed would earn me a death sentence, It is about time those in power stopped this sickness of political correctness that is slowly strangling our country. Only by people speaking out can there be any chance of changes being made. Burying our heads in the sand and saying nothing and pretending it is not happening will not make it go away. I can give examples (as can many) where crime in this country has gone unpunished purely because of the "Racial issues" involved. This is not a racist post in any way, though I fear there are some who will try to make it so. P.C has IMHO become out of control, where once it defended those unable to defend themselves, it has now become a weapon used by the unscrupulous to further their own ends to the point where even commen sense is put down. The comments made by Kilroy were I believe printed some time ago with no major hype, they have been republished and suddenly he is public enemy number one in some circles. The next thing we know he will probably be sued by someone for the terrible mental anguish his comments have caused, the frightening thing is that they would probably win. Meanwhile some religious leaders in this country will still be recruiting suicide bombers to fly abroad to do their duty with the entire weight of British law is behind them in their right to do so, Mike

Agree almost totally, especially the bit about printed before

Please use the return key a bit more though. That's a big block of text to read without breaks.

The man was speaking ....

"the truth that dare not speak it's name"

The BBC is just a bunch of lily livered wimps and limp wristed individuals who, like our beloved leader don't have any convictions to have the courage of.

The Arab world is generally intollerant of our western way of life and VV.

GENERALLY, but not exclusively.

Sorry Brendan.
I'm afraid I got on my soap box a little there, so punctuation suffered a little. (It was 0325).
Regards, Mike.

One of these posts mention the BBC being a bunch of lilly liver wimps.

I wish that were true. I believe it is more sinister and the BBC News Depts have an agenda of their own. Having applied the principles of political correctness vigouressly for some time the outcome is they have been taken over. Do you ever listen to the Today programme on Radio 4 selective reporting and propaganda or what!

As I understand it, these remarks were originally made back in March (?), prior to the Iraqi invasion, when he was defending the decision to attack Saddam Hussein, useing his remarks to support the Government's actions. He claims, the newspaper the article originally appeared in only received two written complaints at that time. Now it seems, for some reason, the article was republished elsewhere AFTER the invasion, and supposedly without his authorisation, but this time has been picked up for some good old fashioned propaganda. Most people I talk to seem to think he's been harshly treated.

It seems that RKS has reached an amicable agreement with the BBC, and his company will be continuing to produce daytime shows. Let's face it, his programme was pretty dire - for an amusing slant on it, you should take a look at this website!

Re: BBC

Our pub quiz partners (am I sad or what?) think that Eddie Mair(PM), Ed Stourton and Bill Turnbull (TV) are wonderful, feeling human beings.

My personal opinion is otherwise.

Absolutely. Kilroy-Silk has been stepping over the boundary of impartiality in his column for years. This was one column too far for the BBC in its post-Hutton mood. It's remarkable that he had escaped censure for so long.

Re: Where is the line to be drawn?

Are really ready for true free speech?

The vocal minorities control media and politics because they have passion, aims and drive. The bovine masses witter aimlessly among themselves and remain powerless.

With a bit of luck the pensioners, who are marching today, will stir us all up too.
