I thought it time I started getting involved in this forum - been lurking for a while now.

I think this forum is great - so thought I would make a start by saying hello. At least I've broken the ice now !!!

That piccy is Aquaholix from Blue Ocean which was chartered for our Yachtmaster training in August last year.

Hence the reason the entire River Hamble scrambled for cover !

Hello Mike - nice to see you sign up. You don't have to say much about yourself, coz it aint our business really but it helps to know what boat you have (if any) and where you are. If you hit a snag with said boat, then you don't have to go large on the description, coz we'll see it on your biog - that sort of thing.

Anyway, welcome aboard. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Thanks everyone for the kind welcome. To answer an earlier reply here is a little about myself:

I don't own a boat at the moment, but quit my IT career last year to pursue my passion for M/Y and hope to get a job here in the UK within the industry.

Took some training to get my Yachtmaster ticket and all the other associated certification and am now looking to get started. Have spent plenty of time on various M/Y both here and in the med as crew, and decided that I wanted to make a go of it for a living.

I can't think of anything better to do with my life. I love the water, I love motor yachts and if I can work full time with them - I will be one happy chappy !!

Got a 15 year old who is driving me mad too. So far we have requests to enrol him on the UKSA Superyacht course out of Cowes, the Warsash Merchant College and Dartmouth Naval College.

Plus he has already written a business plan how when he qualifies he is going to Charter out our boat, 5 days a week @ £1000 a day with his mate. I did happen to notice there was no cost accounted for the purchase / hire of the boat, to which he replied, "No need Dad!, You've already bought that!!"

Did his Power Boat Level 2 last week too, guess who paid for that!! Paul

Fair play, I only wish I'd started a little earlier instead of wasting 8 years in the IT industry. Still - I am only 26 so I'm not over the hill yet.

I just need to get started - which at the moment is the hardest bit to do. Contacts, thats what I need !!

The UKSA seem content on shoving me on some Megayacht in the Indian Ocean, but I don't want to go there yet. When I told them I wanted to start working in the UK initially they said 'are you mad?'.

I've got plenty of time to move onto the 40m+ yachts. I want to enjoy the smaller stuff first.

Is it worth speaking to Sunseeker International Charters out of Ocean Village, met them at SIBS last year when we were thinking about an M64, they seemed to be very busy with one day corporate charters within the Uk. Think the chaps name was David, had a Dutch partner if memory serves. They are virtually the official chartering arm of Sunseeker out of Poole as I understand it. They were on the stand and doing business anyway.

Worth a try, think I've mislaid his card but I'll have a look and PM you. Paul

Good on 'im, he'll go far /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

My lad did his PB2 a few weeks back in Pwllheli in a F8. I had to admire his pluck. He was one one of three on the course and the other two were adults. He put in a credible effort and if it were a points score, he may have won.

Just gotta find the dough for all these courses now /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Thanks for the info on Sunseeker International Charters, Paul. I've got their Head Office details so I'll give them a try.

I'd be most grateful if you did find that info. It's always nicer to have a name rather than having to explain everything three times via reception.
