A few years ago I took a NB in tow that had got itself in a pickle on the tidal Thames. This old memory was triggered by something else but led me wondering. Is anybody aware of NBs that have got into major difficulty when tidal? Does anyone have any interesting anecdotes?

Me and three other boats were in the Pool and a dutch barge lost steering so we towed it and along site a barge under the Oxo tower. Scary stuff and we got a big thanks from VTS afterwards.

There have been a few narrow boats thrown against buoys and there was a narrow boat sunk just outside south dock a few years ago because it had air cooling vents in the side and had been replated so it was further down in the water and I think there were 5 people on it !

I would be very reluctant to tow another boat on the tideway with my barge because I would not be insured. Ideally you want a commercial boat to help if possible - the best would be the fire boat if they were nearby.
