Have been following with interest the history of a Turbo 36 coated with Coppercoat about two seasons ago.
Boat on blocks yesterday complete with lovely crop of very small barneycules, lifted only about six months previously and jet washed off to expose new surface .
Why is it not working.Perhaps floating in wrong sort of water, not applied correctly, or perfidious EU crustations not playing by our English rules ?
Perhaps some new mutation resistant to expensive marketing hype ? :)

I thought that the recommendation was a rub down with scotch bright pads, not sandpaper/wet and dry?

That's my understanding too. When next out I intend to use a weak acid, probably oxalic, to activate the copper. I seem to get quite a bit of weed but no hard growth at all.

Thankfully it's not 'marketing hype' I've had my boat for 14 years with the last eight years having copper coat. Wouldn't own a boat without it.

Agreed

IMO Coppercoat isn't as good an antifoul as conventional A/F paints.
However it is dead easy to manage.
We berth in probably the most aggressive waters in the world.
Since coating in Coppercoat, we have lifted a couple of times each year for a pressure wash but in our marina you need to lift a conventionally antifouled boat a couple of times a year as well - to keep it clean.

Each spring, we lift and block off for about 5 or 6 days.
During that time we gently rub the Coppercoat with a large "Scotch Type" pad whilst spraying with a hose.
And that all we do - dead easy and a huge time saving over conventional paints.

Yep - I'd definitely coat a future boat with Coppercoat.

I had the boat pressure washed yesterday after another year on the Hamble, third year with Coppercoat. Only a slight black slime, essentially no barnacles except for the props, shafts and rudders.

What was your speed difference before wash to after wash at the same RPM?

Just lifted my (sailboat) after 11 months, Coppercoated from new. only slime, easily washed off and a couple of barnacles on the saildrive housing which has Trilux on it. Prop also Triluxed and clean.

Very pleased.

I'm happy with cc performance. Slight slime which comes off easily with jet wash on sealift2 (Gosport), no barnacles in Solent waters with cc. Only costs about £400 pa for three lift and scrubs on my 10.2m Fly. So easy compared to others that anti-foul every year.

Eastlands at the top of the Hamble has their summer special, was £50 for our 8.7m and £100 for our 12m lift and wash.

They have a decent pressure washer that removes all the barnacles from the props and rudders as well, it costs less than some magic potion to keep those clean throughout the season.
