I've been looking through my photos and boats log of this season, March and April had good bouts of sunshine, the three Queens event early June, gloom, overcast, not at all warm, 7 P&O ships in July mist, rain, dank, SIBS 15 September sunny and warm,as was end of September, most of October, and the beginning of November.

For us, one of the worst summers in recent years, however, the shortest day is not far away, so looking forward to the next season, with hope it's better than this.

How was yours?

Well, my goal this year was to make my first Channel crossing and i achieved it in July with a four day voyage to Jersey and Guernsey. The weather was brilliant. Agree worst season for weather since i started boating in 2005 - but cant help feel a bit pleased with myself .

I too have been saying this - started with a hose pipe ban and seemed to be very wet indeed.

However - we had three separate weeks in the Solent when we had excellent wx including 7 day heat wave in which we stayed entirely in Newtown Creek and did not see much cloud at all throughout.:-)

Trick is very careful planning and watch the forecasts from Simon Keeling who gives an early heads up on high pressure systems - huge flexabity with time away from the office helps too of course.

So all in all a not too bag season - although miles travelled and engine hours are very low this year, but time O/B which is what counts most is huge :-) I'm happy

I managed a lot more trips out this season than I did the last, my boat has been new to me for a year now so I wanted to get as much use as possible and I will be using it through this winter. Early part of the season was good, I remember getting quite badly sunburnt at the end of March! :)

Previous years I have always had a week off work for Whitsun & 2 weeks in August. With other days taken for long weekends now and then etc.

This year I decided not to plan at all apart from a week at Whitsun. As usual it was either raining or windy all week and the boat didn't move.

I then just kept an eye on the weather forecast and planned holidays around the good weather. This worked well and we used the boat more than ever this year. It was fairly evident though that the weather was not settled for many long periods. Typically we were lucky to have a couple of good days before rain/wind and then alternate.

Then had a week off in September which allowed us a few nice trips but again, around midweek the weather turned.

I count myself lucky to be in a position to take time off pretty much as and when I want. Years ago I was in the position to have to book time off 6 months in advance and this would be a nightmare. A friend is in this position and had 1 week in June, 1 week in July and 1 week in August. He was really unlucky with the weather and used the boat a few times but was back at the marina every night, there was no more than a couple of days clear at a time. On the upside he got all the "to do" jobs completed!

This has been our first season with this boat ,and we have used it loads, not without a few problems, weather has not stopped us,but it,s been interesting at times, ist trip of the year was from Ipswich to London and back, this was a trip organised by sealine, and was excellent ,even though we no longer own a sealine boat ,we had four weeks cruising around from the east coast to the Channel Islands , made all the more interesting when the thruster's packed up 1st day, we enjoyed the Channel Islands so much we have taken a new berth at eastcowes ,so we can spend all winter in the Solent, then explore the west coast and revisit the Channel Islands again next season, all in all not going to bad considering only started cruising in 2009,and lost a season through selling and buying boats.averaging 150hrs per season,I'm not even going to think about how much diesel we have used :) but it's been worth every penny, hope to see you out and about.

We spent a month on board cruising from Windsor to Poole (on dj43s old boat.) Yes, some days were better than others and the last week in July was sublime. If I remember correctly, April started started pretty well too! We managed to explore all our old south coast haunts and then blast back to London in (relative) comfort... Force 4/5 strengthening to a 6 in the estuary.

When the weather was bad, we just watched the Olympics ;) Next season will be better.....

Have to say that we've had a good season.

Weathers been rubbish and we've had some horrific trips out but always got there in one peice and made me more confident in our boats abilities.

Only trouble is, the weather windows haven't aligned with my time off so we've been out loads just not gone very far.

He's to a warm, sunny and calm 2013.
