So do I keep the Bruce or the CQR as a Kedge?

Sorry, dont mean to be ungreatfull but this post excludes the excellent anchors available from Spade or Ronca! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Dump them both. You need the space and if the worst comes to the worst on a lee shore you are not going to sink!

Great, that's the main anchor chosen.

But your kedge is supposed to be a lunchtime anchor or one that could be set from the dinghy. Sell 'em and buy a 5Kg with 8m chain + nylon rode.

Good point, but as we have now installed an electric windlass, lunchtime is less of a problem. Take your point about rowing out in th dinghy though, the bruce is lighter than the CQR so that might be the one to keep.

in bad conditions a CQR is a better anchor than a Bruce, but they are all three the same style so would really recommen getting rid of both and getting a decent sized fortress - much lighter for use as a jkede, but with the holding power and a different type so good for different bottom conditions.

The sad thing is that I had a fortress, on our last boat, it went with it when it sold!

The CQR is perfectly serviceable, but 15kg, a bit on the heavy side for a kedge dont you think?

Keep all of them.... you can always find room to store them if you want to!
You never know when you might need them in anger....
And you could maybe get a Fortress as well......

tis a bit heavy for a kedge, but I would want that type of anchor to be that weight as a second anchor (hence recommend for a fortress),

I still think a different type of anchor is very useful if you are having difficulties getting one to set.

Forget the CQR as a kedge...when you take it out in the dinghy it is only a matter of time before you get your finger caught in the moveable bit. Blood everywhere and a v. unhappy bunny results!!

[/ QUOTE ]Lose the CQR, it's a plough like the Delta but the Delta is absolutely superior in every sense. The Bruce on the other hand may prove better at setting in some conditions, so you're maintaining a tiny bit more versatility.

The CQR will stow away better than the Bruce.

It's only 30lbs, even as a kedge I wouldn't want it much smaller.

The Bruce is a little lighter too and it fits neatly under the helmsman's seat, holding the petrol can for the outboard in place!
