my Yachtmaster.

Guess many of you have this already, but I'm pleased with myself anyway.

Spent all week on the boat, 10 till midnight every day, even later today for the test.

Learned loads (which was my objective) and got the ticket too which was a very welcome bonus.

Well just for a change I would like to be first to congratulate you, well done, it's well worth doing and I may manage it one day /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

On my own boat in and around Southampton so including beuliau, hamble, portsmouth and cowes (by day and night of course and with the cahrtplotter firmly off). . Had 1:1 prep/tuition for 4 days followed by the test.

Southampton is a long way from Shamrock Quay.
Where the feck is beuliau /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well done old bean....

Guess I can now feel confident when I take you up on your kind offer of a blast around the Solent.... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Have you done this with anything on the job front in mind or just for personal gratification? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Another one with his chartplotter switched off it seems!

No but thanks for reminding me I'd practiced that!

Thankfully spelling isn't part of the test either but tiredness is the excuse.
Having said that I can never spell the name of the place with the motor museum and the jumble.

Did it entirely for personal gratifacation, plus to get legal. Rather naughtily considering I go abroard, before yesterday I didn't even hold an ICC

And I probably did only just pass! I certainly made mistakes during the assessment but got out of them.
Incredibly interesting examiner, a true mariner with many tales. When - told him I had a tinker he told the story of him and 1 other spending 6 days in one after losing a keel in an ocean race!

Did see an interesting display of seamanship in soton water on the way down last night. It was still light and some numskull yachties were racing across the main channel with kites up, cutting in front of the wightlink ferry. I heard 3 hoots followed by 5, and the bow of the ferry dipped noticeably. It stopped very quickly indeed, and there was a yacht close in front, but then I saw the one that was hidden by the ferry, talk about close quarters. Looked like they played chicken, tried to drop the spinnaker at the last minute and made a hash of it. They were vwry lucky.

It cost £600 plus the RYA fee of 160 odd. As it was on my own boat I paid diesel/moorings etc on top. The chap who did it is moored next to me so I didn't pay full rate.
I think he does it for £3200 inc vat on his school boat including breakfasts, diesel etc and you can stay on the boat. You can also have more than 1 person. RYA fee on top.
Anyone who wants full contact details pm me.
